Being trapped in a facility – or on a spaceship – while a hostile alien entity is trying to hunt you down is likely a video game premise we’ve all heard of: from Amnesia: The Dark Descent to Alien: Isolation, a large variety of games have made sure that the idea of playing a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a relentless adversary would become an integral part of the horror genre’s collective consciousness. And there’s nothing wrong with that. “But what if the roles were reversed?” asks Carrion, a so-called “reverse horror game” from developer Phobia Game Studio. Well, the answer is simple, and demonstrated wonderfully in a new trailer: all hell would break loose. In Carrion, you take on the role of an agile, mostly formless monster out for revenge against those who had imprisoned it, and the rest is pretty much up to you: grab people with your tentacles, slither through tight corridors to scare the living daylights out of everyone, or even take control of hapless security guards and turn them against their own allies – the end result is probably a rather horrifying experience for everyone involved… except for you, of course.

Hungry for a trailer? Here’s one:

Carrion will be launching on July 23 for PC, Switch and Xbox One. In the meantime, there’s also a free Sneak Peek demo available for download on Steam.
