Publisher Ratalaika Games and developer Steelkrill Studio will be launching Trenches, a psychological survival horror game set during the First World War, on January 20 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch. Inspired by stories and documentaries about the period, as well as the semi-recent movie “1917”, Trenches stars a lone soldier who wakes up and finds himself surrounded by the nightmarish destruction wrought by the war. Players will have to survive in the titular trenches with only a photograph of their family to grant them a sliver of hope and solace – in order to meet them again, they’ll have to face the horrors that await them in this bleak, claustrophobic world. Interestingly enough, Trenches promises a particularly hardcore level of difficulty with randomized elements and gameplay focused primarily on sounds and hearing, with enemies being able to pick up every small noise you make.
