Announced in December of 2017, Witchfire is a dark fantasy FPS from The Astronauts, the team that created The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, but one that is also made up of members who previously worked on games like Bulletstorm and Painkiller. Despite Witchfire’s flashy reveal, though, news about the project have been scarce ever since – until The Astronauts finally decided to break the silence in a new blog post, that is. According to the post, the team is making progress, but with only eight people working on the project, said progress is fairly slow; nonetheless, they promise regular development diaries going forward, with the team sharing something new about the project every Wednesday. For starters, they’ve revealed that you’ll play as an agent of the Church hunting witches, and that the game will feature no narrative cutscenes whatsoever.
Witchfire doesn’t have a release window just yet, but the team considers a 2020 launch to be “reasonable”.
