The legend of Street Fighter has been born anew in a recently-released live action series called Assassin’s Fist: the promising web series debuted worldwide this May and was met with a very positive reaction – and now, you can watch it on Youtube as well. Assassin’s Fist tells an origin story allowing a brief glimpse into the lives of iconic SF duo Ryu and Ken: the two are best friends, training in a mountain dojo far away from society under the instruction of their master, the wise Gouken. As you may expect, Gouken’s own brother, the evil and power-hungry Akuma (Gouki) also makes an appearance, serving as an antagonist in the web series, much like he does in the game series. The series’ online debut was met mostly with praise: the actors do their jobs well, the special effects look believable and the fights are all tightly choreographed. Although I cannot say for certain that a complete newcomer to the franchise may enjoy this as much as an old veteran of the series, it’s definitely worth a watch. It’s also completely free, so there’s that, too.
