“What would you do to bring back someone you love?” is the question asked by Sword of the Necromancer, an upcoming action-RPG by developer Grimorio of Games – and the answer seems to be “a whole lot of dungeon crawling”. The game, currently on Kickstarter, utilizes a top-down perspective with charming 2D pixel art and aims to marry the unique traits of the roguelike genre (i.e. losing all your gear when you die) with the fundamentals of dungeon-crawling RPGs. However, that’s not the only trick it has up its sleeve: as the game’s title no doubt implies, you’ll be able to unleash necromantic powers to revive the various monsters you’ve slain in order to turn them into obedient allies. And speaking of allies, the game also supports local co-op play, in case you’d like to tackle the adventure with a clone-friend at your side.
Sword of the Necromancer’s Kickstarter campaign is still very much underway, albeit it has already reached most of its planned stretch goals. Said stretch goals will add a host of additional content to the game, including English voice acting, a theme song performed by Emi Evans (NieR: Automata), a new game mode called “Colosseum”, two extra boss fights and more.
Sword of the Necromancer is scheduled to be released later this year on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch.
