Publisher Modus Games has revealed over 20 minutes of all-new gameplay footage from Cris Tales, a promising RPG with a time manipulation twist. In Cris Tales, protagonist Crisbell is a budding Time Mage who must stop the evil Time Empress and save the world by essentially rewriting its future – in classic JRPG fashion, she’ll visit a variety of locations and meet all sorts of interesting characters along the way who can help her undo the Empress’ plans. This is where the game’s time-altering mechanics come into play: during gameplay, players can see the past, act in the present and see how their choices dynamically affect the future, all on the same screen.
Cris Tales itself is a title with an intimate relationship to the past – developers Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK describe the project as taking inspiration from influential RPGs both old and new, including Chrono Trigger, Valkyrie Profile, Persona 5 and Bravely Default. It’ll be launching on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch later this year; there’s also a free demo available to download via Steam.
