In an extensive interview with Italian gaming site Geek Gamer, Shadow Hearts creator Matsuzo Machida talked about the highly unique PS2 JRPG series in great detail. Right off the bat, we must warn everyone that the interview contains some heavy spoilers, and as such, is mostly intended for fans who had already played the games, so tread carefully. It does, however, delve into a number of other interesting points as well: for example, the fact that Machida is currently working on a new game, although he couldn’t quite disclose any information regarding the title. When asked about crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter, he expressed his admiration for Keiji Infafune (Mighty No. 9) and Yu Suzuki (Shenmue 3), commenting that he himself feels that Shadow Hearts fans may be a minority compared to that of other games.

“I guess that there are people interested in an RPG with features from Shadow Hearts, but I also feel that they are a minority compared to fans of other RPGs in general. On a personal level, obviously the presence of such fans is indeed precious. Should I get the chance to, one day I would like to create something able to answer their expectations, and I would definitely throw all of myself into it.”

In relation to the Shadow Hearts series, Machida also confirmed that there are currently no remake or remaster versions planned, adding that he would most certainly like to make it possible one day.
