It’s official: the second playable character in The Witcher 3 – that was teased by CD Projekt RED just a short while ago – will be none other than Ciri. The white-haired woman is apparently an important person in Geralt’s life who has so far not made appearances in The Witcher’s video game adaptations, but is a key character in the original novels – or so I’m led to believe. According to CD Projekt RED, players won’t be able to freely switch between her and Geralt – instead, Ciri will only be playable during certain points in the game’s storyline.

However, they also went on to imply that her playable role will be relatively minimal, with players only being able to control her for short periods of time, so don’t expect *too* much. Making Ciri playable – they explained – was a decision made for narrative purposes, and not for the sake of gameplay mechanics: the goal was to give players a bit of insight into the story from her perspective as well.

If you remember, The Witcher 3 has been delayed further just recently: instead of February, the game will be released on May 19, 2015 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
