Doubtless the team of Naughty Dog needs no introduction – the developer team responsible for the highly popular Uncharted series as well as last year’s PS3 favorite, The Last of Us, boasts of a considerable following among Playstation owners. As such, it comes as no surprise that their latest project is going to be a follow-up – a prequel, to be quite specific – to The Last of Us in the form on an expansion DLC – the short campaign, called Left Behind, plans to explore the backstory of Ellie and Riley in an episode chronologically taking place before the events of The Last of Us.

It needs to be mentioned, however, that Naughty Dog is shooting for a noticeably different experience with Left Behind compared to the original campaign. The expansion will see Ellie show an entirely different side of hers, one that fans may not be familiar with based on her image in the original, with the overall tone of the episode being a touch lighted and less depressing. Yaani King, the voice actress impersonating Ellie in the game, had this to say to IGN during an interview : „You're going to have a little more fun, I would say. You get to be a little more playful, you get to see a side of Ellie, along with Riley, that is a bit more carefree, not so focused on the world that they live in and the reality in which they live in” – she explained. „And you get to see her through Riley, who's kind of bringing these things out of her and loosening [her] up a bit.” In addition, it was revealed that Left Behind’s story would largely take place in a mall, and that the campaign’s gameplay – albeit not differing greatly from the original – would include certain smaller changes and nuances.

Left Behind, at present, is lacking a fixed release date – we do know, however, that it’s supposed to come out sometime in the first quarter of 2014. Naughty Dog remained similarly vague about its potential plans with the game - or its DLC - on the PS4, but they did not outright dismiss the possibility of a port, either.
