System Shock 2 is often mentioned in the context of many “best of” lists due to its chilling cyberpunk atmosphere and first-person survival horror gameplay mixing elements RPGs and FPS games. It was one of 1999’s most exciting releases, but not the first game to put you in the role of a hacker waging war against a rogue AI. No, that all started back in 1994, with the first installment of System Shock – a game that now, over two decades later, has received an update. The so-called Enhanced Edition of System Shock features higher resolutions (only up to 1024x768, but hey, it’s better than the original’s 640×480), mouselook support, remappable keys and bugfixes. It’s
available on GOG right now, in case you’re feeling nostalgic.
