“Wake up, maggot. Time to work,” proclaim the opening lines for a trailer introducing The Oily Depths, a short-form horror game created by indie developer Ryan R. Burns. As you might’ve guessed, the game’s grim tone and retro-style graphics are part of its charm – inspired by titles such as Iron Lung and Lethal Company, The Oily Depths will have you manage a submarine and drill for oil in service of your ruthless corporate overlords who seem thoroughly disinterested in your well-being. You’ll be setting up various gauges, monitors, levers, and everything else that’s potentially needed to complete the job (including putting out fires), but do try to meet your quota, otherwise your employer will cut off your oxygen supply. How nice. Watch the announcement trailer below if you need a taste of the game’s atmosphere, as well as its strangely catchy music:

The Oily Depths doesn’t currently have a release date. It will also receive a playable demo at one point in the future.
