Developer Frogwares has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, a complete remake of the 2006 adventure game of the same name that had the legendary detective go up against a cult worshipping the ancient cosmic god Cthulhu. Instead of being a mere remaster, The Awakened will serve as a narrative continuation to 2021’s Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One: according to the reworked story, Holmes and Watson are roommates at first, and this is the case that will turn them into lifelong friends and partners. The game will use a semi-open world structure with no hand-holding, forcing players to actually become detectives themselves as they collect clues and figure out what to do next; meanwhile, they’ll also have to deal with reality-bending insanity puzzles that represent Holmes’ gradual descent into madness as he uncovers unspeakable supernatural secrets.
