So, as we previously reported, Shenmue 3 is happening – and not only is it happening, it has also been successfully funded on Kickstarter shortly after its announcement. So that’s great news, and no doubt Shenmue fans across the globe have already had their fair share of celebratory champagne – director Yu Suzuki, however, had some more information to share regarding his plans. As it turns out, the 2 million goal was merely the beginning, and in order to fully realize Suzuki’s vision, the campaign would have to reach roughly 10 million. In a Reddit AMA conducted recently, Suzuki mentioned that if funding hit 5 million dollars, one of things he really wanted to do with Shenmue 3 would be realized. He went on to say that hitting 10 million would make the game a truly open world experience. It also needs to be mentioned that Kickstarter won’t be the project’s only crutch – Sony itself will be lending its support to Shenmue 3, funding included.

Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter campaign was announced during this year’s E3 at Sony’s press conference, and will be developed for both PS4 and PC. As for the funding itself, it’s sitting at 3.5 million dollars at the time of writing, with well over three weeks left on its counter.
