Indeed, Harebrained Schemes, the minds behind Shadowrun Returns, as well as the notably more impressive Shadowrun: Dragonfall from this year, are working hard on a new project. Necropolis – for this is what the game is called – is “a game of brutal combat and survival”, as Harebrained puts it, throwing a series of unforgiving challenges at brave and/or foolishly brave adventurers while indulging in just the right amount of dark humor to make it all, well… not so depressing? You get the idea. Either way, Necropolis is described primarily as an action game/roguelike with a fast-paced combat system based on timing, and an environment – the deadly, titular maze – that constantly shifts and changes around you, resulting in a different labyrinth each time. “Will you find the exit, or die trying?”, resounds the question – the folks at Harebrained are very much convinced of the latter, and I’m inclined to agree. But that’s all part of the fun, isn’t it?
Necropolis is scheduled for a 2016 release on PC, Mac and Linux via Steam and possibly consoles as well.
