You may remember that Harebrained Schemes, the team behind Shadowrun: Returns and Shadowrun: Dragonfall, teased a new installment last December, one that would – corresponding to backer polls – take place within the city of Hong Kong. Well, January has come and the game is already up on Kickstarter with roughly a month still left on the timer and a number of its stretch goals already funded.

As Harebrained explained, Shadowrun: Hong Kong would have been a full-fledged 12+ hour standalone adventure even without crowdfunding, but – being the ambitious team that they are – they wanted to pack their new creation with as much content as humanly possible. And that’s where Kickstarter helped (nearing $550.000 at the time of writing), both improving the game while also adding extra side missions and the like. At $700.000, for example, Harebrained will revamp the look and gameplay of the Matrix, something I’m very much hoping will be achieved, considering this bit was among my few gripes with both the original campaign and Dragonfall.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong is currently shooting for an August 2015 release for Windows, Mac and Linux, deciding to exclude tablet releases in order to take full advantage of the PC’s capabilities.
