Shadowgate, a classic first-person point and click game from 1987, is ready to rise from its ashes – the full-blown remake Kickstarter all the way back in 2012 is finally entering its backer-only beta phase, with the full release scheduled to happen later this summer. The remake, made possible by developer Zojoi, is not merely a graphical improvement, nor a lowly port (the devs are outright allergic to the word, no doubt), but a complete remake with all-new features and never before seen enhancements. The game itself is a point and click fantasy adventure/dungeon crawler affair played from a first person perspective – the granddaddy of the genre, Zojoi explains, in which you endeavor to stop an evil sorcerer from unleashing the so-called Behemoth upon the world. You move from room to room, exploring the treacherous castle, toppling all its traps and puzzles for great justice.

According to Zojoi, the beta phase will last roughly two months, after which they’ll be ready to ship the final product for PC, Mac, iOS and Android. There’s also a pre-order discount available for those that decide to buy the game right now, before the official release – it is also worth noting that by purchasing the “Hero”-tier version of the game right now, anyone can gain access to the beta.
