Welcome to GTOGG’s June 2024 edition of Promising Indie Game Releases, where we highlight indie and non-mainstream titles that we believe deserve your attention – in other words, “look at all this potentially cool stuff you might’ve missed otherwise”. That would’ve been too long for a title, though.

In any case, let’s get right down to it.

Dragon is Dead

Dragon is Dead is a grim, action-packed roguelite with a haunting premise: the dark dragon Guernian, after having his brethren slain by the gods, has embraced evil and is trying to corrupt the world with his army of demons. You, in the role of a dragon slayer, must venture forth and stop Guernian before it’s too late, becoming more and more powerful even as death takes you – with this being a roguelite, players will be able to keep the power of their gear and runes even after falling in battle, allowing them to come back stronger... and angrier.

Still Wakes the Deep

Still Wakes the Deep, a psychological horror game from developer The Chinese Room, is set aboard a massive, seemingly abandoned oil rig situated off the coast of Scotland, and it follows the journey of protagonist Caz McLeary, an electrician who must find his way out before the whole structure comes crashing down. However, the place isn’t quite as abandoned as it seems, and there’s an otherworldly horror on board as well – probably the kind you wouldn’t want to run into.

The End of You

Sporting oldschool graphics, The End of You deals with a sadly all-too-common topic – heartbreak, the loss of love, and the desire for closure. In this emotional narrative game, you’ll play as Walter, a troubled man haunted by the memories of his lost love: he sees traces of her everywhere, but knows that he must eventually pack away the past.

Songs of Silence

Songs of Silence combines a vibrant Art Nouveau visual style with real-time battles and turn-based kingdom management as players wage war against opposing powers, hoping to emerge victorious. Finding themselves in a world of conflict, players will have to commandeer one of three available factions, each with their own heroes and play styles, while exploring a narrative-driven single player campaign – that said, don’t worry if you’d rather test your mettle against human opponents, as the game will feature various cooperative and competitive multiplayer game modes as well.

Chornobyl Liquidators

Chronicling the tragic events of 1986, Chornobyl Liquidators will focus on the nameless heroes of history’s greatest nuclear disaster – in the role of so-called liquidators, players will explore literal hell as they try to deal with the aftermath of the nuclear plant’s explosion. You’ll also have to make difficult moral choices that could very well affect the lives of many, including that of your loved ones, as you’ll need to decide whether to follow orders or refuse to submit to the KGB’s attempts at suppressing the truth.

And that’s our list for now! Did you discover a new indie game to look forward to? Well, we hope you did. In any case, don’t forget to check back in about a month for our next episode, where we’ll be taking a look at the indie games of July 2024!
