Still Running and Merge Games have announced Morbid: The Seven Acolytes, a so-called “horrorpunk” action-RPG that blends the elements of Lovecraftian horror with a 2D take on the tried-and-true Soulslike formula. Expect tons of hacking, a bit of slashing and quite a lot of pixel gore as you embark on a brutal quest that has you hunt down the titular Seven Acolytes – powerful creatures possessed by malevolent gods known as the Gahars. Interestingly enough, and very much in line with the whole Lovecraftian theme, the game will feature a system where you have to manage not just your health and stamina, but your sanity levels as well – so I guess the moral of the story is: hunt down epic bosses that look like they’ve crawled out of your worst nightmares, but try not to go completely insane while doing it. Sound advice, if you ask me.

Morbid: The Seven Acolytes will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch later this year.
