John Romero and Adrian Carmack, two of id Software’s founders (that is, the legendary company behind Doom and Quake) are back to revive the classic FPS their way with a brand new title called Blackroom. Currently amassing funds on Kickstarter, Blackroom aims to be the kind of FPS Romero is most widely known for: one focusing on fast-paced action, swift strafing, rocket jumps and complex levels. Add to this a 10-hour-long single player campaign, various multiplayer modes, full mod support and community maps (with dedicated servers), and you’ve got quite a complete FPS package. Blackroom also boasts of quite a bit of variety in terms of its setting – as the entire game is based on the premise of a holographic simulation going rogue, you’ll be able to explore a huge selection of different locations including Victorian mansions, Wild West ghost towns and even outer space.
The project is looking for $700,000 on Kickstarter with a projected release date of Winter 2018, only for PC at the moment.
