Wyrmkeep Entertainment has launched another Kickstarter campaign to create a sequel to Inherit the Earth, the classic point and click adventure from 1994. The new project is now called Inherit the Earth: Sand and Shadows. Now, I would assume at least a number of you felt a touch confused at the „another Kickstarter campaign” bit, specifically the „another” part. Yes, this is a second attempt and yes, there was indeed a first one. The project was originally launched a good while ago simply under the title “Inherit the Earth 2”, but a combination of a poor presentation and a potentially unconvincing pitch – for new audiences, at least – resulted in the cancellation of the fundraiser, which only managed to amass a little over 8 thousand dollars out of its $135.000 goal. But this hardly meant the end of the project itself, so here’s round two, a year and a half later. The original Inherit the Earth was mostly a classic point and click adventure from the golden age of the genre that stood out from among its peers with its usage of anthropomorphic animals (called Morphs in-game) as their main heroes. Sand and Shadows aims to continue the storyline more or less where the original left off with its returning main character, the cunning fox Rif.

If the campaign is successful this time, Inherit the Earth: Sand and Shadows will be released primarily on Windows, Mac and other platforms. Here’s hoping it fares better than the original pitch.
