Veteran pixel artist Henk Nieborg has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Battle Axe, a top-down arcade adventure game inspired by titles such as Gauntlet, Golden Axe, Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara and Knights of the Round. The game supports both solo and local two-player co-op play, and features three distinct characters with varying play styles and abilities: the cannon-wielding Rooney, Fae, a dark elf who fights with twin blades, and a powerful mage called Iolo. It’s also worth noting that Battle Axe’s soundtrack will be composed by Manami Matsumae, who had previously worked on classic titles such as Mega Man, Final Fight and Shovel Knight, among many others.

The Kickstarter campaign is hoping to collect a little over $52,000 for its initial goal; as for the game itself, it’s being planned for a January 2021 release on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC/Mac/Linux.
