This year’s VIECC, much like last year’s, will feature a number of well-known guest stars: among the actors to visit Vienna will be Benedict Wong, who played Wong in Dr. Strange, Jason Isaacs, the villainous Lucius Malfoy of the Harry Potter movies, as well as John Rhys-Davies, who brought The Lord of the Ring’s Gimli to life. That isn’t the end of the list, however: other celebrity guest stars include Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, one of the most iconic video game characters of all time; Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in Star Wars, Sebastian Roché from Supernatural, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Max Grodénchik.
Several big names from the comic book world will also be present at this year’s VIECC, such as Scott Snyder (American Vampire, Batman, Swamp Thing), Adi Granov (Iron Man), Jim Balent (Catwoman), Emanuela Lupacchino (Star Trek, Doctor Who, Thor: God of Thunder), Giuseppe Cafaro (Soulfire), Chris Giarrusso (The G-MAN Super Journal), and Guillermo Ortego (Astonishing X-Men, Batman Eternal). If you’re looking to find talented cosplayers, you won’t have to look far: among the convention’s guests are Alodia Gosiengfiao, Liui Aquino, Aigue Marine, Leobane, Lady Sundae, and Lux Cosplay. Naturally, a costume contest will also be held in the form of this year’s Championships of Cosplay, where the winner of both last year’s VIECC contest and 2017’s C2E2, the Hungarian Okkido, will be returning as a member of the jury alongside Alodia Gosiengfiao and Liui Aquino.
If you happen to be a fan of competitive gaming – and League of Legends in particular – you’ll be happy to hear that the semifinals and finals of the Vienna Challengers Arena will be held live at VIECC 2017, where the best players from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will face off against each other.
