Developer R_Games has launched Zero Protocol, a first-person sci-fi horror game with a nostalgic, retro aesthetic. The storyline will take players to the ill-fated IAS Antarctic Research Complex, forcing them to survive in its dark, dimly-lit corridors while collecting codes and access cards, solving puzzles and gradually uncovering the terrible secrets of the facility. It’s a game that immediately made me think of System Shock (and to probably no one’s surprise, it’s one of the inspirations for the project) back when I tried it during this summer’s Steam Next Fest, where I wrote: “Despite its intentionally oldschool graphics, Zero Protocol kept me sufficiently uneasy during the entirety of the demo – its flickering lights, weird hallucinations and ominous blood trails made sure to keep me on my toes.” Here’s an older trailer to give you an idea of what to expect:

Zero Protocol is available on PC via Steam.
