First Wonder, the spiritual successor to Giants: Citizen Kabuto, is now on Kickstarter

Back in 2000, there was a game called Giants: Citizen Kabuto, and it was probably one of the most memorable titles of the early 2000s. Why? Well, you could control a group of jetpack-toting soldiers who took on a colossal monster the size of a small mountain, and let’s be honest, it was all fun times. Rogue Rocket Games, a team comprised of industry veterans who once worked on – you guessed it – Giants: Citizen Kabuto and another similarly snazzy shooter, MDK, feel the same way. Outright described as the spiritual successor to Giants, First Wonder is planning to offer more or less the same deal, with a group of high-tech jetpack dudes called the Cargonauts duking it out with a giant monster by the name of Monstro. The two sides will be playable in both single player (sprinkled with the same type of humor-infused cutscenes you remember from Giants) and the asymmetric multiplayer mode, naturally.

I worry for the future of the Kickstarter campaign as the team is still quite far away from reaching its initial goal, but we’ll see. If all goes well, First Wonder will most likely release near the end of 2016 for PC, with the PS4 and Xbox One versions being stretch goals.
