Final Fantasy XV was at this year’s Gamescom with some new content to show off, some of which included big green monsters — but more on them later. In any case, we have a fairly short trailer about protagonist Noctis and his father – apparently, the father-son dynamic will be key to the game’s narrative, alongside the major theme of bonds between friends. Director Hajime Tabata also revealed that, if possible, he would like to include airships in the game, but added that the team is still debating whether or not it would be possible from a technical standpoint. Furthermore, we learned that the game will be getting another demo – no release date on it just yet, though.

Oh, and if you want to see something very Final Fantasy-ish, the team also showed off an old friend who most likely needs no introduction to long-time fans of the series: the giant Malboro. In a brief gameplay video, the green tentacle monster attacks the protagonists and actually emerges as the victor, plunging the unlucky heroes into an early grave – or in this case, a Game Over screen.

Final Fantasy XV is currently scheduled to be released on a date that’s before 2017, according to Tabata. I suppose that means 2016, but we’ll see.
