So we’ve all been aware of the news for a while now – as it was announced at this year’s E3, the much sought-after remake of Final Fantasy VII is indeed in the works. Cue celebration and champagne. In a recent interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine, director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed a few morsels of information regarding the JRPG dream-project. To be specific: we’re to expect some big changes regarding the battle system. No, I doubt we’re getting a new Call of Duty, but it’s going to be quite a drastic change, Nomura revealed. “We’re not going to be changing it into a shooter or something like that. We are going to be bringing dramatic changes, but we want to make sure it’s still recognizable.", he said in his interview. So I guess we’re not getting a carbon copy of the original game’s turn-based ATB system? We’ll see. He also mentioned that Advent Children (the Nomura-directed movie taking place after the events of Final Fantasy VII) is very much being considered as a source of inspiration for the remake project, at least in terms of the visuals.
