The folks at Eidos Montreal have very recently revealed the next big thing they’re cooking up for gamers, and surprisingly enough, it’s not a game (yet), but something that’s possibly even bigger – an entirely new engine. According to Eidos, the company had, in the past, relied on existing engines to bring their game projects to life, which, as they explained, often limited their creative vision. Not anymore, though: with Dawn Engine – developed completely in-house –, Eidos plans to change just that.

The announcement came hand-in-hand with a yellow-ish picture – a color scheme that will no doubt be reminiscent of Deus Ex: Human Revolution to many – “aimed to display the level of detail and artistic fidelity that is possible with the Dawn Engine.” Indeed, Eidos did go on to say that the Dawn Engine would serve as “the cornerstone for all Deus Ex Universe projects”, which most likely comes as no surprise to any of us, having seen the picture in question. They also quickly added that the “Universe” bit in Deus Ex Universe does not, actually, refer to an MMO – something that I’m genuinely relieved to hear, truth be told.
