So this should come as no big surprise to anyone that’s been following Larian Studios as of late, but here it is, in all its official glory – a sequel to 2014’s Divinity: Original Sin is in the works. Well, you may be wondering what the sequel could bring to the table. Quite a bit, apparently. According to Larian, the main theme of Original Sin 2 lies in origins and how your roots may define or influence who you are: enter four entirely different heroes, all potentially controlled by another player – if you choose to opt for multiplayer instead of playing on your own – and possessing their individual goals. The latter is something that will come into play during the game, as each player will occasionally follow their own personal quest lines that may or may not conflict with the goals of the party – this can potentially lead to disputes and a highly ambitious system that Larian calls the competitive multiplayer, allowing players the choice regarding how they wish to balance their own needs with that of the party. The game is also aiming to introduce a new Skill Forging system that lets players craft their own magic –combining two spells to create an entirely new one –, as well as a number of new combat features like a cover system and a push/pull mechanic.

It’s all looking pretty exciting, and I’m probably not alone in thinking that, considering the game’s Kickstarter project is gaining pledges at a respectable speed – with 34 days left on the counter at the time of writing, it’s already reached well over half of its initial goal of $500,000. In any case, if all goes well, Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be released in December of next year for PC, with all backers gaining access to the alpha and beta versions as well.
