Mandragora, a 2.5D side-scrolling action-RPG from developer Primal Game Studio, has a playable demo out. Described as a title with both metroidvania and soulslike elements, Mandragora takes you to a brutal yet decaying dark fantasy universe where vicious monsters run rampant due to the corrupting influence of Entropy. Exploration follows the tried-and-tested formula of the metroidvania genre, where players wield a variety of skills and tools in order to expand the scope of their adventures, whether that’s in the form of scaling buildings with a grappling hook or tearing down weakened walls. Meanwhile, boss fights are expected to be challenging encounters inspired by soulslike games, forcing players to master the skills at their disposal or die trying. It’s also worth noting that the storyline is being handled by Brian Mitsoda, who joined the Mandragora team as its narrative lead – if you’re not quite familiar with the man, he’s a writer/designer whose name is most often associated with the 2004 cult-classic RPG, Vampire the Masqurade: Bloodlines.
Mandragora’s demo is now available to download from Steam.
