Chris Avellone, renowned game designer and – among other things – the mind behind the classic CRPG Planescape: Torment, has announced his departure from Obsidian Entertainment after 12 years with the company. Avellone co-founded Obsidian in 2003 and went on to work on titles including Knights of the Old Republic 2, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer and Fallout: New Vegas. Most recently, he contributed his talents to the Kickstarter-funded Pillars of Eternity as a narrative designer.

When asked by Eurogamer regarding the matter, Avellone responded by saying he’s “off to pursue new projects”. He couldn’t say what those projects might be, but we’ll definitely be looking forward to them – in the meantime, we wish him the best of luck.
