Brutal Legend 2 might (maybe, possibly) happen if Psychonauts 2 is successful

The recent Game Awards offered a number of interesting surprises for those who tuned in, and one of these was an announcement from Broken Age developer Double Fine, namely that a sequel to the lovably bizarre 2005 action-platformer (and otherwise truly excellent game) Psychonauts is – could be – on the way. There’s a crowdfunding campaign for it, though not on Kickstarter this time, but rather Fig, and despite my initial fears, the project – at the time of writing – managed to collect a very respectable 2.2 million dollars out of its 3.3 million goal. But how does Brutal Legend come into the picture? Well, for one, it’s another Double Fine game, one where you jumped into the role of a roadie voiced by Jack Black and embarked upon an action-filled journey to explore a world inspired by classic heavy metal albums.

Needless to say, on the occasion of Double Fine’s latest crowdfunding venture, the topic – or rather, the future possibility – of a Brutal Legend 2 came to the surface. To this, the team gave a fairly vague answer, stating that the success of Psychonauts 2 could (possibly, maybe, hopefully) influence the creation of a Brutal Legend sequel. “We can’t make any promises but if Psychonauts is a success for us, then perhaps Brutal Legend 2 will be more possible?”, their FAQ section stated.

UPDATE: Double Fine has recently put out a three part retrospective documentary about the making of Psychonauts.
