When it comes to exotic locales in video games, ancient China is probably one of the top contenders – now imagine all of that with a retro-styled point and click adventure, and you’ve got something we don’t see every day. Detective Di: The Silk Rose Murders is anything if not intriguing, placing you in the shoes of legendary Tang Dynasty investigator Di Renjie, as you solve a series of grisly murders. Detective Di is a game inspired by the classics: the dev team brings up Gabriel Knight, Grim Fandango, as well as The Longest Journey as examples to be followed. Gameplay-wise, The Silk Rose Murders offers more or less what you might expect: explore a variety of locations, some spanning several screens (45 in total according to the devs), talk to people with several dialogue choices, collect clues and items, then solve puzzles. The team is also planning to include a unique deduction / reenactment mechanic, during which players will be able to reenact a crime in order to solve its various mysteries.
The game’s Kickstarter campaign is not yet funded at the time of writing, although it still has roughly a week left on its timer – if funding is met, the team aims to complete the game by April, 2016 for PC/Mac. Stretch goals plan to add translations to three other languages, as well as English voice acting.
