Do you ever just look at a game and go “yup, I need to know more about this”? Well, Alruna and the Necro-Industrialists managed to get that exact reaction out of me – indeed, that title alone is quite the eye-catcher, and it’s exactly what piqued my curiosity about developer Neckbolt’s charming, retro-style metroidvania project. Exploring a land sucked dry of all life, you’ll play as the dryad Alruna who’s... not having a particularly great time in this world of the dead: ruled by the necro-industrialists, the wasteland is littered with skeletons and dead things, with salvation being worryingly out of reach. Maybe. Gameplay-wise, Alruna and the Necro-Industrialists is hoping to give players free reign over their adventures: sequence breaking, that is, doing things out of order and finding out-of-the-box solutions, is one of the key features of the title – in other words, experimentation will likely be rewarded.

Alruna and the Necro-Industrialists is currently slated to launch sometime in Q3 of 2024. It also has a free demo on Steam, if you’d like to give it a go.
