A recent interview has revealed that Night Dive, the company responsible for the enhanced re-release of System Shock has acquired the rights for the whole franchise and is currently planning to develop a full-blown remake for the classic sci-fi survival horror title. Originally released in 1994, System Shock had you play as a resourceful hacker in a attempt to fight the rogue AI, SHODAN – the game went on to spawn a 1999 sequel and even served as inspiration for the renowned BioShock series.

Not much is known at present about Night Dive’s remake of System Shock, other than the fact that Robert Waters, the original’s concept artist, will be lending his talents to the project. Another plan Night Dive has for the remake is a console version. Oh, and if all this wasn’t enough, we’ve learned that the team is having discussions about a potential System Shock 3, though nothing concrete seems to have materialized on this front just yet.
