Alien: Isolation, one of the best horror games of the last decade, is getting its much-deserved sequel. Announced by creative director Al Hope in an X/Twitter post celebrating the influential title’s 10th anniversary, the long-coveted sequel is indeed very much real and currently in early development.
As you might’ve guessed, the game’s grim tone and retro-style graphics are part of its charm – inspired by titles such as Iron Lung and Lethal Company, The Oily Depths will have you manage a submarine and drill for oil in service of your ruthless corporate overlords who seem thoroughly disinterested in your well-being.
Solo developer Joe Richardson’s latest project begins as a dying Immortal John gives a task to his soon-to-be-heir, Malcolm: he must perform seven good deeds before sundown in order to receive his inheritance.
The game follows the story of a seemingly doomed crew stranded on a space freighter in the distant void of space – with power and food supplies quickly running out, the survivors have no choice but to deal with starvation, isolation and... well, each other.
Starring a betrayed knight who’s been cast into the abyss and reanimated as a corpse trapped inside a set of demonic armor, Kill Knight will have you explore a total of five eldritch arenas inspired by retro 90s arcade games and filled with creatures that absolutely want to see you destroyed.
Described as a title with both metroidvania and soulslike elements, Mandragora takes you to a brutal yet decaying dark fantasy universe where vicious monsters run rampant due to the corrupting influence of Entropy.
The storyline will take players to the ill-fated IAS Antarctic Research Complex, forcing them to survive in its dark, dimly-lit corridors while collecting codes and access cards, solving puzzles and gradually uncovering the terrible secrets of the facility.
Sporting lovely pixel art and anime-style aesthetics, the game will maintain the tight 2D action that players saw in the original game, while placing even more of an emphasis on exploration, essentially shifting the title’s genre to a full-on metroidvania.
The game takes the fundamentals of the RTS genre to otherworldly heights as players get to command mythical creatures and harness the very power of the gods (specifically from the Greek, Norse, Egyptian and Atlantean pantheons) in their attempts to claim victory across a variety of legendary locations.
Inspired by classic 90s teen horror, Fear the Spotlight begins as Vivian and the rebellious Amy sneak into a school and attempt a séance – however, the ritual fails and turns the school of Sunnyside High into a nightmarish hellscape, Amy goes missing, and Vivian is now forced to explore her new surroundings while being hunted by a mysterious monster roaming the hallways.
